Italian Aid and Development Cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been ongoing since the beginning of the war in 1992, when the first emergency activities in the field of health in favor of refugees and the wounded began. After the Dayton Peace Agreement in November 1995, the Italian Cooperation Office began to focus its activities in the sectors of reconstruction and economic development, coordinating its interventions with International Organizations and other donors. In 1997, a Local Technical Unit (UTL) was established in Sarajevo. In November 2005, Bosnia and Herzegovina began its path of European Union integration through the opening of negotiations for the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), signed in June 2008. Since 2005, the Italian Cooperation Office has been carrying out technical assistance and awareness campaigns for local and Italian operators who are interested in the opportunities offered by the European integration process.
