Statement by Minister Frattini on the eve of the elections in Bosnia Herzegovina
01/10/2010
-
Minister Frattini is closely monitoring the electoral campaign in Bosnia Herzegovina ahead of the 3 October vote, which promises to be a major test of that democratic maturity that could contribute to the country’s evolution and, in particular, to its gradual integration into the EU and NATO. “Bosnia’s European prospects are the main route to overcoming the tensions that could lead to the dangerous logic of the past and ensure institutional stability. We must help keep Bosnia in step with the region’s other countries and support them in their journey toward Europe, the next phase of which will have to be relaxation of the visa regime. Italy will continue to work with its European partners toward the gradual normalization of the political framework, with a view to integration”, Minister Frattini stated. The electoral campaign that ended today in a calm and uneventful climate allowed all political parties to formulate their proposals. Minister Frattini expressed his hope in the normal conduction of Sunday’s vote and in the resumption of dialogue among the political forces following the elections. This is a development necessary for the launch of the reforms much-needed for the construction of a credible and functional political-institutional framework on which to build a stable growth economy.
