SUGGESTIONS FOR VISITORS IN LATVIA

In the light of recent episodes of aggression we recommend visitors to bear in mind the following advices:
We wish you a pleasant and safe stay in Latvia!
Please remember:
- keep your passport in a safe place;
- always take a copy of your Passport with you;
- avoid drawing suspicious-looking persons’ attention, for example by wearing expensive jewellery;
- avoid disreputable places (cases of tourists forced to pay sky-high bills up to 1,000 lats have been reported) and do not walk alone at night. Although most tourists enjoy a peaceful stay, isolated examples of aggression have been recorded (in particular outside discos; we also have record of sporadic cases of tourists transported by taxi in isolated places and then robbed)
- make sure not to leave your beverage unwatched, narcotics might be spilled into it;
- beware of pick-pocketers mostly in crowded places like the train central station and the old town of Riga;
- respect the laws in force as regards possession of drugs, otherwise you will incur penalties;
- respect the laws in force as regards public order, otherwise you might get arrested for anti-social behaviors;
Refer only to authorized and certified guides for guided tours of the Old Town in Riga and other historical, artistic and enviromental attractions.
If you are visiting Latvia by car, please remember:
- keep always with you your driving license and the documents of your vehicle;
- lock-up your vehicle’s doors and do not leave any valuables in sight;
- Park your vehicle in well lit areas;
- Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Latvian laws are very severe: you will incur fines if over >
