Dr. Valentino Simonetti
Ambassador of Italy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Ambassador Valentino Simonetti was born in Cardiff (Great Britain), January 3, 1948. Graduating in Law from the University of Rome in 1972, he started his diplomatic career in August 1975, taking his first assignment at the General Directorate of Personnel and Administration in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From 1979 to 1981, First Secretary at the Embassy of Italy in Jeddah (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
From 1981 to 1985, Consul of Italy in Bordeaux (France).
From 1985 to 1987, Counselor in the Embassy of Italy in Kinshasa (RDC).
In 1987, he returned to Rome, Directorate General for Economic Affairs.
From 1990 to 1994, First Counselor for economic affairs at the Embassy of Italy in Ottawa (Canada).
From 1994 to 1996, Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia (USA).
In 1996, he returned to Rome, Directorate General for Development Cooperation.
From 1999 to 2002, First Counselor and then Minister Counselor, Deputy Head of Mission, at the Embassy of Italy in Beijing (China).
From 2002 to 2006, Minister Counselor, Deputy Permanent Representative, to the International Organizations in Geneva.
He returned to Rome in 2006, and in 2007 he became President of the Inter-ministerial Committee on Human Rights.
Ambassador of Italy in Riyadh since July 2010.
