Giacomo Sanfelice di Monteforte Born in Rome, January 21st 1947.
In March 1971 he graduated in Political Sciences, from the University of Rome.
In August 1975 he joined the diplomatic service following entry by public examination.
In 1976 he was promoted to Second Secretary and served at the Department for the Cultural, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and from the 20th of June 1978, at the Embassy of Italy in Tananarive (Madagascar). In March 1981 was assigned as First Secretary to the Embassy of Italy in Teheran.
On the 1st of July 1983 he joined the Permanent Mission of Italy to the EEC in Brussels in charge of the relations between the EEC and the Mediterranean Countries. Promoted to the position of Counsellor in 1985. In January 1987 he returns to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to serve at the Office for Disarmament and Non Proliferation Unit of the Department for Multilateral Political Affairs and Human Rights.
On the 1st of January 1990 he was appointed again to the Permanent Mission of Italy to the EEC in Brussels as advisor on the relations between the EEC and the Asian, African and South American countries. The 1st of January 1991 he was promoted First Counsellor and reconfirmed in his previous role.
In the month of September 1994 he was posted to Cairo as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Italy.
Upon his return to Rome in November 1997, he took charge of the Middle East and North Africa Section of the Department for Multilateral Political Affairs and Human Rights.
On the 2nd of August 1999 he joined the Secretary General’s Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as personal assistant to the Secretary General. On the 23rd of June 2000 he was promoted to Minister Plenipotentiary and nominated Deputy Director of the Department of Personnel.
On the 2nd of October 2002 he was appointed Ambassador of Italy in Sana’a (Yemen) also accredited in Djibouti, upon his return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he was nominated on the 11th of June 2005 as Deputy Director General for Multilateral Political Affairs and Human Rights.
On 12th September 2007 appointed as the Director General of the Department of Personnel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rome.
Since 15th September 2010 Ambassador of Italy to India.
