From 5th March 2010 electronic passports are issued with a microchip wherein not only face images will be memorized but also the fingerprints of the holder. The nationals who wish to apply for a passport must come personally to the Consular Office to have their index fingerprints captured electronically. Children under 12 are exempt.

Passports issued before the above date will remain valid up to the expiry date.
