of Ambassador Luca Fornari
Ambassador Luca Fornari was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on 15 February 1946.
He graduated at the University of Rome with a degree in Political Science in 1969 and joined the Diplomatic Service in 1971.
From 1975 to 1984, he served as First Secretary in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the UN in New York, and then to the Delegation C.E. C.P.E. in 1984.
In 1985, he was appointed Consul General in the Consulate of Lubumbashi (Zaire). From 1988 to 1992, he served as First Counselor in Tehran (Iran).

During his years at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 2005, he served in the Directorate General for Political Affairs; in the Directorate General for Development Cooperation; in the Directorate General for Economic Affairs; as Head of the Third Office of the Directorate General for European Integration; and then in the Directorate General for the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Countries.
In 2005, he was appointed Diplomatic Counselor of the Italian Minister for Regional Affairs and Local Autonomies.
As Minister Plenipotentiary from 2007, he held the position of Coordinator for the matters pertaining to the Cultural Policies of the European Union within the General Directorate for Cultural Promotion and Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He is married to Silvana Novelli and has a son named Lorenzo who works in Paris.
