Armando Barucco, born in Naples on June the 11th 1962.
Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to the Republic of the Sudan (1st November 2011).
He has served in Brussels at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union (2007-2011), and was in charge of the general coordination of the Permanent Representation, the preparation of E.U meetings of Heads of State and Government and E.U. Councils of Ministers of Foreign Affairs. He was also in charge of Institutional Affairs, including the Treaty of Lisbon and the establishment of the European External Action Service.
Previously he served at the Directorate General for European Integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2003-2006) and was Consul General of Italy in Mumbai (Bombay), India (2002-2003). Other previous assignments were to the Permanent Representation of Italy to the E.U. (2000-2002); the Italian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (1996-2000), where he served as deputy Head of Mission; and in Somalia, where he was deputy Head of the Italian Diplomatic Delegation for Somalia during the United Task Force (UNITAF) and United Nations Operation in Somalia (UNOSOM) operations (1992-1993).
He holds a Master in Law (with honours) from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and a Master in European Legal Affairs from the College of Europe in Bruges. He has conducted intensive studies and research at the Institute for the Study of Religions and Cultures of the “Università Gregoriana” in Rome.
He is a Fellow of the Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs of Harvard University, where he conducted studies and research in 2006-2007..
