
LUCIANO PEZZOTTI
Ambassador Luciano Pezzotti was born in Rieti on the 15th December, 1959.
He graduated in Political Science at the University ‘Luiss’ of Rome and entered the diplomatic career in February, 1988.
Following his service at the General Department for Emigration and Social Affairs, he was assigned to the Press and Information Service until August 1991. Luciano Pezzotti was then appointed Second Commercial Secretary at the Embassy of Italy to Teheran.
In 1995 he was transferred to the Permanent Representation of Italy to N.A.T.O. in Brussels where he initially served as First Secretary and later as Counsellor.
Upon his return from abroad in 1999, he took up a position at the General Department for Personnel and Human Resources following which he was assigned to the General Secretary’s Direct Collaboration Office where he was in charge of supervising the Collection of Contemporary Art of the Foreign Ministry as well as organizing the logistics for the Genoa 2001 G8 meeting.
From October 2001 to January 2006 he served as Consul General of Italy in Istanbul. In July 2003 he was promoted to Embassy Counsellor and in 2005 he was decorated Official Knight of the Italian Republic’s Order of Merit.
Upon his return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in January 2006 he was appointed Head of Office of the Office for the Near Middle East in the General Direction for the Mediterranean Countries and the Middle East. I
n February 2008 he was appointed Consul General of Italy in Jerusalem.
In January 2012 he was appointed Ambassador of Italy to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
