Conference by Professor Roberto CARNERO
"Pier Paolo PASOLINI: il Poeta"

02/12/2011
-
As a tribute to the famous Italian writer, poet and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini and under  the Patronage of “Centro Studi Pier Paolo Pasolini Casarsa Della Delizia”, the Italian Embassy in Beirut, in cooperation with “Al-Jamal” Publishing House, organizes a conference on: “Pier Paolo Pasolini: il poeta”. On December 8th, at 5.00 pm, in the Conference Hall of the Beirut Arab Book Fair - Biel, the Italian Professor Roberto Carnero, author of the book “Dying for ideas: Literary life of Pier Paolo Pasolini”, will give a lecture focusing on Pasolini’s poems which best represent his biographical life and his style. Mr. Khalid Al-Maaly, Director of Al-Jamal Publishing House, and As Safir Journalist Iskandar Habache, will dialogue with the lecturer.

Al-Jamal Publishing House published in 2009 a collection of Pasolini’s poems translated into Arabic, entitled “Pigpen” inspired from Pasolini’s movie carrying the same name (Porcile). The translation, carried out by the Tunisian writer Muhammad Bin Saleh, under the sponsorship of Abu Dhabi Cultural and Antique Authority, is the first collection of Pasolini poems translated into Arabic, and it well represents the will to link up Eastern and Western culture in the wake of Pasolini’s own desire.

Professor Roberto Carnero,
literary critic, journalist and lecturer in various Italian Universities, is an expert of Pasolini’s works and literary production.

The following day, on December 9th at 10:00 a.m., Professor Carnero will give a second lecture about “Pasolini and his places” at the Lebanese University in Beirut. The lecture, specially addressed to Lebanese students of Italian language, will analyze Pasolini production through the lenses of the “geographical places” which mainly characterize his production: from his native land, Friuli (a region in the North-Eastern Italy) to Rome, where he got in touch with the growing problem of the poorest working class, and concluding with the “East”, a geographical dimension linked to a “state of mind” which represents an alternative to the West and to its industrial and consumerist lifestyle.
