GENERAL INFORMATION ON SCHENGEN VISAS

The “Schengen” visa is for short stays (tourism or business) in the following countries: Austria , Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark , Estonia, Finland , France , Germany , Greece , Hungary, Iceland , Italy , Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg , Malta, Netherlands , Norway , Polland, Portugal , Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.

1 ) NON-EU citizens travelling to one of the above mentioned countries may
receive a visa for a short stay from 1 to 90 days (maximum), which is valid for
all the above countries.

2) There is no legal right to a visa.

3) The visa application has to be presented to the Visa Section of the country of
main destination which is dependent upon the purpose of the journey and the
length of stay. If your main destination cannot be ascertained, the Schengen
country through which you first enter is responsible for granting the visa.

4) Different documents are required depending on the purpose of your journey.
Additional documents or information may be required.

5) Furthermore, you must possess a valid Residence Permit for Australia
stamped on your passport. If you wish to apply for a visa, YOU MUST BE
RESIDENT IN AUSTRALIA AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION, your permit,
issued by the Dept. of Immigration, must be either INDEFINITE or have a
validity of at least three months beyond the expiry date of your requested visa.
Regrettably, if you do not meet this criteria, the Italian Consulate is not in a
position to issue you with an entry visa into Italy and YOU SHOULD
REQUEST THE VISA IN YOUR COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE.

6) Other types of visa (airport-transit, medical treatment, visa for longer stay and
visa for taking up employment) are still subject to the national legislation of
the country of destination

7) The Schengen Visa allows the holder to move freely in all the above mentioned
countries within the validity of the visa. To obtain this type of visa you will be
required to hold a passport or travel document that is recognized by all of the
Schengen member states and valid at least three months beyond the validity of
the visa. If your passport or travel document is valid only for certain Schengen
states then the validity of your visa will be restricted to those states.
